I am having a issue with my son.  He is a small group kindergarten and is doing pretty well, but lately he has been shutting down.  Falling on the floor and not doing his work or joining in.  I call it the dead man fall where they go limp and fall to the floor.  I am frustrated because I am not there and I have no control over what he does. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get him out of shut down mode or to stop falling to the floor every time he doesn't want to do something?

What does the school say?  Does the school listen to your needs?  Does your son have anyone working with him in school (like a TSS (therapeutic support staff) or a BSC (behaioral specialist consultant) or anyone else like OT or PT or Speech?

It is a special group kindergarten with the school district.  They have a Ot and PT and speech come and help, but they have not given me anything to try with him at home.  They seem to want me to provide them with ideas,  I have given them what he likes to do at home(examples are books he likes, computer games, and foods) to try and help motivate, but they keep sending home notes saying he laid on the floor and wouldn't do his work.  I am not sure what else I can do?

Have you had a team meeting?  I know my son had a BSC in the school (for quite a few years-no more now-since this past October) and it really helped-because we can't be there in school with our kids (though man sometimes it would seem easier)  The BSC would go to the school and home and we had a plan and they really helped out-

How does the teacher respond to this?  That would be my first question.  Also, does your son have any therapists?
