My son had to see a specialist in a pediatric center 2 hours away 2 days ago and she recommended melatonin for him due to his ADHD meds not allowing him to sleep. It is working great he is a much happier kid when he isn't over tired. (Normal for him was asleep at 2 am and up at 7 am) I know itsnatural an something your body produces anyway, but does anyone have anymore information on this? He is 5 years old and the Dr said give him 3mg.

I used to give it to Brady, but long term use isn't good...well it wasn't good for him.  It started to not work after a few weeks, so we stopped, and he sleeps better now.

I give it to Olivia, she would sleep for about an hour and be ready to go for the day if I didn't give it to her.  She's been on it for a couple months now, haven seen any negative side effects.

We used to give melatonin. It worked well at first but then he would get up multiple times a night and destroy his room.

I can't say much about the med itself except that it works well for many children.

I give it to my granddaughter who is 8 because she also takes meds for ADHD and seizures. I don't give it to her on Friday and Saturday nights because we stay up anyhow and this gives her a chance to do the same.

I give 1mg to my son who's 5. We're in the process of getting him evaluated for Adhd & Aspregers. It works well for him! I even take it myself sometimes.

I use to give it to my son. It wasn't strong enough. He fought it and still ended up sleeping only 4-5 hours a night. We have something stronger now.

I have this problem with my 7 year old son who has ADHD. It was so hard to get him to sleep and somedays still is. His doctor recommended Melatonin too to help with sleep, because he wouldnt be able to lay still to fall asleep and he would go to bed until 2am either. His meds wear off after school so for about 8-10hrs he would fidget, impulsive, and hyper. When I did try it I only tired a half tablet 1mg but it didnt help any. Well the doctor said 3mg and have yet to try it. He also has seizures rarely only once and had to go for eeg and put on meds so I think I may start it or just wait and ask his neurologist if it will be ok. If your doctor said to give it to him try it see if it helps him.
