Broken hearing aids-----Edit

Last Friday at school the hearing in Lina's left ear beeped, meaning that the battery is low & needs to be changed. The tester we have isn't that great and this isn't the first time that the battery read full and began to beep at school. Anyway instead of telling her teacher like she is supposed to do Lina took her hearing aid out and tried to shut it off and broke the entire battery compartment off. I called on Monday and I can take them to the clinic and they will see if they can fix them or what will happen next. I am taking them to the clinic on Friday, it's the first day I have to get them there. I just wanted to scream at her for doing that but I didn't. She knows that one of her teachers or the aids is supposed to take them out NOT HER. I really hope she understands not to do this again.

She did okay on Monday with out her hearing aids but yesterday and today she seems to be having more trouble realizing she is being spoken to. I hope that her aids can be fixed at the office.

Well I got them down to be fixed and it will take about 2 weeks before we get them back. The lady tried to pop the battery compartment back in but it won't go. She broke it good. So they will get fixed and retubed.

Don't panic! Battery doors can be replaced and most of the time they don't charge you for the service. Mine does it for free, others charge $5.00. Takes less than 10 minutes.

If it's something more, ask them if they can give you a loaner (if it's the type thaat goes over the ear)

I would also make sure to tell everyone when they speak to her to make sure that she is seeing them face to face. I can't hear people when they are in back of me or I am not looking at them.

Hopefuly this will help.

I am getting ready to get dressed to make the hour trip to audiology to turn them in. I am so glad that due to the situation we are in that she has State Medical. Between the cost of her hearing aids, glasses, medication, specialists, tests, and her hospital & ER visits I would never have been able to cover it.

She is having a little trouble knowing when someone is talking to her unless you raise your voice or are close to her. Sometimes even when she is looking at you it is clear that she doesn't fully hear you. It is frustrating but I understand, but getting the others to remember that she hasn't been wearing her aids for several days and can't hear you as well as before has been a little bit of a pain.
