Daughter in Need

Okay what do I do now..

My daughter is no longer on my deceased Husbands ins.  .. cause

quite frankly I think they found a way to boot her off Temporarily

until Enrollment this October.. At least I hope I can get her back

on.. does not make any sense really cause her 23 and 18 year old

siblings are on the same Insurance..

My Daughter was Born with Congenital Hypothyroidism... also a kidney birth

defect... Recently wouldn't you know it.. when the Insurance isn't there,,

she is developing more trouble with her Kidney......

the Doctor that they sent us too was a Nethrologist (think I spelled it wrong).. He informed me

a Urologist would not touch us with my daughter NOT having any

insurance.. And he did not do any surgeries.. he was just there to

determine her problem.. basically he did nothing except scare me

Telling me things like she needed to rush back to the Family Doctor

if she even suspected a UTI.. that she could not let it go to her Kidney

if she did,, eventually that right kidney that was shutting down could

turn septic,, and she would be in ICU or worse.. Yeah I know worse

not good.. and he was such a big help.. I wanted to smack him

I even informed him I did not think my daughter even recognized

a UTI.. and my daughter confirmed it later... Also I felt he did not

ask enough questions.. and when I asked if putting her on meds

every time she had a UTI wouldn't it make her or the bacteria

immune to the Antibiotic and eventually it would do nothing to help

He looks at me and says.. Well yes.. we can't let that go on

forever if she continues to get them... But I don't see anything else

for you to do at present except watch those UTIs that they don't

turn into Kidney infections..

So tell me what do I do.. I can't get her on for sure until

October.. the Insurance Co.. just don't care

and I thought about trying SSI again..... She was turned down once

already.. but maybe this would get her the Medical Card until I could

get her on the Insurance

This Idiot Doctor took a urine sample and the Nurse said it was slightly

elevated what ever that means.. and I had the good sense to

ask her Family Doctor to check it again.. Guess what that Quack

sent her from his Office with a UTI.. I mean she had to have one then

Cause it was the very next day I took her to the Family Doctor..

The Nurse at my Family Doctor's office asked me so what did he do

for you.. I told her nothing except scare us and send her away with

a UTI.. she looked upset at first.. but said nothing..

So what do I do..

I need help.. any agencies out there that might help

I think she is too old now for BCMH.. she used to be on it

as a child but she is 20.. soon to be 21 in Sept..

Any help would be a blessing.. I need someone that will

take a stand and help us

Are you in the US?  If so, your child can remain on your insurance until she's 26.  I don't believe they can boot her off for pre-existing.  Where are you located? Does your town/county have a special needs umbudsman?  Check your town's website.  If not, contact your state's congrressman and/or senator for assistance.  They will help fight for you.

Like Foxxy said try the political people first because they may help you get her insured before October rolls around.

If you try for SSI again and they turn her down there are Social Security Lawyers that will look at your case for free and if they believe that you/dd should have gotten it they will take the case for free to start with and when you get the intial money it is usually a lump sum amount that they basically are re-embursing you from the day that you applied and the lawyer gets a  percentage that is why they take these cases for free. I'm saying this based on what happened with me but that was several years ago so I don't know if that has changed. The problem will be that it took me 2 years to finally get the whole process completed and I was filing under Social Security Disability. Currently we know she won't qualify for SSI or SSD as she is making progress and could possibly be considered able to be self sufficent by their standards.

I have seen on the Dept of Health & Human Services here in Washington State where there is a page where an adult disabled person can be covered by State medical. Again I don't know if they have changed that here. I haven't needed to apply for that for Lina and won't for 9 to 12 years.

I wish you so much good luck getting this resolved!  Big Hugs Momma.

Thank you ladies.. I am going to check into this.. My own doctor told me

that I should seek an attorneys advice.. I think something is fishy here

I just realized I might not have put everything in.. this story.. back in 2011 and 2012 she was on her Dad's ins and pension.. she got 388.00 a month

because she has an IEP and was still in High School taking an extended

program.. She dropped out of the two year program against my prayers

that she will see reason and continue her education.. But young adults will

be young adults.. and I could do nothing about it. She went the whole year of 2012 just did not return after the summer break for the 2012-2013 season

once the pension plan.. which is called PERS found out they cancelled her

and tried to say she owed all this back pay.. after proving she went that whole year and only possibly owed for the summer months whick at first

I was told that would not count cause she would have been in the summer months and not decided for the Fall months. anyhow they got that straightened out at the payment department and then I started having

trouble with her Insurance.. saying she was cancelled cause of this back pay

well her older sister has simular problems when she went to college  for

a year.. but they did not cancell ther insurance.. just had her make payments

on the balance of the over pay..

that is what they should have done with my younger daughter but I think

they saw her as a bigger liability.. so stopped the insurance.. I don't get it

either.. I am a US citizen.. I live in Ohio.. and the Obama law has not hit

here very well as of yet.. but I heard that my state should be catching up soon. so I am going to my congressman and who ever else will listen. this is wrong and I know it..

I will get back with you.. as soon as I get somewhere

Thank you..I do too. I think the insurance Co have too much power

these days.. but if it says they have to abide by this new Law

then that is great.. I hear from others in Ohio, that it takes a few

more minutes for it to take affect here in Ohio.. we are always

slow on the take here.. we will see

Okay this is an update.. No insurance yet.. and yes it is a mess,

but they have to let her back on in October, and she put

an application in at my school.. Seems she can be a sub

in the kitchen, just do a background check and she has the

job.. when she goes through her sub Period and gets hired

on permantly then she will be union and have benefits

I am so glad I stayed on at that school, Sub Bus driving all

these years.. I think she has a good chance,, with hard work

and the kitchen help should not be too hard for her.. I hope

NOT like Custodial.. So here we go... Someday soon she

might be on her way... Keep her in your prayers

God will protect her.. I know this now.. She finally

got over her UTI,, is eating better and finally gained

2 pounds or so.... so now she weighs 87 pounds...

that is good for her.. Wish she was at 95 at least
