Is there a way to get on a list for private adoptions?

Just to add--perhaps other members who have gone the private adoption route may have more insight and information for you.  :)

Thanks, I know there are people out there who are at hosp or whatnot and once you get a child through private adoption, you kind of become a go-to person to call, when a Mom is talking adoption. I just do not know how to get there initially.

1 mom liked this

We adopted our son privately.

After my miscarriate in 08' I had made an off handed comment to a friends Mom who is a minister-"if you ever hear of a baby..."  Seriously just an off handed thought.  Well, our son was born 9/13/2011...

So my suggestion is this--tell ANYONE you know, saturate the market if you will.  You never know who knows someone who knows someone.  We had 8w3d between being asked if we were interested and the  day we brought our 30 hour old son home from the hospital.

Good luck!

I have never heard of this situation, like what you are talking about with being on a call list at a hospital... Unless you mean getting a foster license and then waiting for placement of a safe surrender baby. That depends on your state laws, and is also extremely rare.

In my opinion, private adoption isn't an easy route. My suggestion would also be tell everyone you know of your plan to adopt. Church, your OB office, friends, family, if you have a family law lawyer who perhaps made your will. Word of mouth. We signed on with an agency while still trying to spread the word on our own. We did however adopt both our babies through the same agency.

I will add that most hospitals use a designated adoption agency. The hospital I work for has a "go-to" agency when a mother decides to place after birth. We keep all of the contact info and general info for the agency and help the mother get in touch with them. You might want to find out if there is such a thing at area hospitals and get in touch with them. Good luck!
