He gets turned on by it or he has OCD and wants to know that since he did it he knows it was "done right" maybe. Many reason to apply to his behaviour. Not really strange though.

I had DH start to do mine when I was pregnant, he did great and we both got turned on by it. I have even (and still do) shave him).
