is more harmful to a child than a light swat on the rear. JMO, but there it is.

I think they both are really negative.

I think spanking if done right can be a great form of discipline if all else fails. Yelling however can make it all worse.

I agree.

I'm not a fan of a light swat unless absolutely NOTHING else has worked, but I never never yell at my DD.

Constant yelling is detrimental...occasional yelling isn't (my opinion). When a child is continually yelled at, they tune the yeller out...they don't hear anything that's being said. Occasional yelling gets their attention, shows them that you DO have emotion, it's not something they hear often, so they listen. Spanking (even a light swat) is harmful, teaches NOTHING (except violence). So, I disagree...there's more to it, it's not simply black and white...there are grey areas....

As a mom with two teen age boys I can tell you it depends on the child and situation. One of my sons yelling worked. My other son it didn't but a spanking would. Both boys are well adjusted good young men.

I think the lack of displine is why we have lazy, disrespectful kids running everywhere because we are so afraid of hurting their feelings we hide them from the real world.

I am trying very hard to work on my yelling. I yell to keep from spanking, but I use both as a last resort.
