..on a stray cat in our neighborhood. No one is claiming this cat and lately it's been lingering in my yard going through my trash. I dont mind her too much, I have given her water every once and a while..

However, today I was outside with my kids and I have repeatedly told them DONT pick up the cat before. Well the one time my oldest ended up picking up the cat, the cat scratched the HELL out of him. I mean, flipping the hell out! I dont know what diseases and bacteria this animal has and it just scratched my child on his face, arm, shoulder and hand!! I brought both the kids inside immediately and cleaned my oldest in the bath tub. I put neosporin on all the cuts and bandaged the ones I could.

Any advice what to do in order to make sure my child doesnt get sick? My BIL got cat scratch fever one time, however, he does have a horrible immune system.

And no, I am not really planning on going out of my way to kill this cat, but if the opportunity shows itself, I will not hesitate. Animal Control has already been called, so they better find her before I do even though the outcome is going to be exactly the same.

ETA* I live in the country, I have already talked to A.C. about my rights to shoot a stray that is on my property. Perfectly legal.

Evil much?

Cats scratch that's what they do.
Your kid shouldn't have picked up the cat, like you said.
I would've told him, "Well that's what you get for picking her up when I told you not to."

I am gonna kill me some cats and coons. They keep getting in my damn trash. I'm sick of picking it up everyday and vomiting in the process.

Catch the cat and take it to the state Epidemiologist and get it tested for rabies. I would be scared to death that it was rabid and could have seriously harmed my child. If you cannot catch it call animal control to do it.

who knows how this cat was abused before your child came across it?  A  feral cat isn't a thinking or reasoning cat.  ( yes they can  when they aren't fighting for every moment of their life).  I wish your child hadn't been scratched.  I wish some asshole hadn't thrown this poor house cat to fend for itself or die.  Possibly horribly in the jaws of a dog, crammed inside someone's warm car engine while the starting car belts rip it to shreds, poison, or just sick & cold in a hole some where.

I can't believe the animal cruelty in this site.

I did tell him that. Doesnt mean I shouldnt do the right thing and have the stray cat removed from this neighborhood.

it's a cat... who cares... take it to the pound and they're just going to put it down most likely.
