I can barely stand my 18month old anymore

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post

So, my 18 month old will be 19months on Friday. He is really sweet when he is happy. However, that's the problem. He is never happy. All he does is scream, and not just for a min, but for 20min at a stretch, and it's the screaming top of the lungs thing. And he only stops for a few min before he is back at it.

No matter what started it, whether it be one of the older 2 took something, or had something that DS wanted, or it be that he was told no, or if I walk past him without picking him up, he screams and screams and screams. It won't matter if I hold him, give him his sippy, give him a toy, tickle him, give him a snack, etc, all his needs are met, he just screams.

I just can't stand to be around him when he does this, and I just want to leave. Go somewhere where I do not have to deal with him anymore. I hate feeling this way, because I do love him, but his screaming it absolutely ridiculous. My other 2 were never this bad. I keep telling myself he will grow out of it, but it's not really helping.

And, no there is nothing medically wrong.

Have you taken him to the peds to rule out any illness or ?

What about taking him to the chiropractor to get him adjusted? His back might be out and its affecting maybe his stomach or neck, so he doesn't feel as good.

Have you looked at him and sternly said, No more screaming?  Tell him all done with screaming.

When he's in a good mood, reward him by saying, its good to hear that you are not screaming, lets paint or run outside, some thing that is rewarding for him.

He loves his mama and wants all of the attention he can get from you! Be flattered. In a blink of an eye he will be big and you will likely miss when he wanted you all the time.

It's better than a run down beaten down mother having a big mistake happen or screaming at her child because she's so worn out
Yes I would have rather my mother put me in a room and gotten me to calm down then screamed in my face or three things or swore or looked at me like she fucking hated me

Give yourself and the child a break. I love the safe room idea.

Quoting Eco_Momma:

oh and CIO isn't good for anyone. Would YOU like to be put in a room alone when you want attention? there have been studies that show CIO is bad for brain development.

That definitely sounds like a food allergy.

Yes. He is now 6, almost 7. He was diagnosed with ADHD at his 6 year check up. I have had 2 kids since.

Now it's the baby girl who doesn't let me leave her sight. But, I have far more patience for it now than I did back then. A better support system now too.

Total is 4 boys, 9, 8, 6, and 3. A girl who is 19m.
