My neighbor is overly cautious around dogs and cats , thusly freaking out her two children ages 7 and 2-1/2 yrs old about either.
Her son was in the stroller and saw my cat run through my yard at more than 15 ft away and he was freaking out. A cat. 15 ft. away. Small, skittish, non-intimidating kitty.
She's had problems with this issue with her family, friends and neighbors but when she tells me about it I think she wants me to agree with her.
I offered for my son to pet the cat so her son could see the kitty is nice. She declined. Another time she complained I offered to bring over my two small dogs so they could get accustomed to dogs. She declined.
Then, she tells her relatives it's not her fault the kids are afraid of animals.
I've known of one other child whose mom was the same way. You have to be relatively cautious around any animal, but these women are building irrational fear in their children.
What say you?
