Do any of you see kids outside with no supervision that are too young to be without it, o kids playing in the street or walking down the road who look like they are like 8 and no parent to be found and just want to find their mom or dad and punch them in the face for being so neglagent?? I see this in my area and surrounding areas alot and it just irritates the crap out of me! There are so many kids who go missing and get molested and hit by cars and worse and they just let their kids do whatever...
Yes but you have older kids around yes? It is one thing for an older brother or sister to be keeping an eye out or if you live in a close knit community but I am talking I live down the road from a busy highway, daily I see young kids that are outside running by it and playing in it and near it and once there was even two toddlers there all alone in the middle of the effing road... I guess what I am getting at is kids that their parents just let em do what they want because they dont care enough to watch them...
I played by myself or with other kids my age all the time at 5 and on. You were "the weird kid" if you had your mama hovering over you watching you play all the time past the age of 6 or 7. Parents poked their heads out and stuff, but no one observed or supervised us. I'm sad my DD lives in a time and social climate that doesn't promote that.
Just because you want everyone to be hyperprotective and obsessively monitoring their kids out of fear doesn't mean it's wrong not to be.
YES! I just saw this today, a little girl with shorts and a heavy ass backpack crossing a busy intersection, this girl couldn't have been older than 8 and she didn't even have a jacket on either! It was in the 30's today and windy, no coat and shorts. WTF?
I always see little kids just walking on their own to school when I drop off my 5 year old, this scares me! I'm not saying have your kid in a bubble but damn! A 6 year old should NOT be walking to school alone.
I got so pissed the other day... Im in vegas (recently there have been a string of pedestrian/vehicle accidents). I was driving through my Neighborhood Walmart market parking lot at dusk and these kids, who had to have been about 8-10, on bikes just road out in front of me.... Luckly I was paying attention, because they wernt and didnt hit them. They came from no where and didnt even look... The continued to ride in front of me and swerve in and out. I eventually honked to get them out of the way and one kid went out of the way and the other turned and flipped me off. I was like seriously... I rolled down my window and told them they need to pay attention and stay out of the street.
I dont mind kids playing outside, even in the street, as long as it is in a neiborhood and not out in the middle of a busy street. I did when I was younger, but my parents instilled in me common sense and to watch what the hell is going on around me.
Boo hoo.
If it's a short walk to school, maybe she didn't need a coat. She might have put it in her backpack. Or she just doesn't feel cold.
Good for those kids walking to school, and good for their parents. They're getting exerceise and they're getting a small taste of independence: an increasingly rare gift to children in this ridiculous world over overprotection where parents drive their little nose pickers 3 blocks to school because of OMGOMGCHILDMOLESTERSSSSS!
OOHH SCARY OOH SADNESS OOH SCARY SCARY SCARY!!!!!

I was trying to figure out how old I was when I started walking to school alone... I was in the third grade or so... I looked it up and it says about 8-9 and I was close to a year ahead everyone so I was about 7ish I would estimate. I walked a couple blocks to my school. I dont see a problem with kids walking to school like that. I could agree with you one the clothing factor though, she should have been in better clothing. But the whole kid walking to school thing doesnt bother me in the least. I mean can understand preditors and stuff, but you cant be afraid of everything. My parents made sure I my walking plan down and knew which way I was going and about what time I should be home etc.

Well you didn't see this little girl so I don't expect you to understand, it was cold and she was struggling with the backpack, she kept dropping it and she looked unkept, it was sad. And the closest school from there was my daughter's which was 20 blocks away. I think that's a pretty long walk for a child with no coat, wearing shorts, and carrying something heavy.
I lean toward the side of safety, period. I'm not having my 5 year old walk to school...yeah right! I'm not opposed to children walking to school, but kids in K5 and first grade are too young! Excuse me if I fear child molesters and would appreciate if parents would walk or took their small children to school.
