How the heck do you do your grocery shopping? Regular shopping? Go to the doctors office anywhere really. I mean if your kid has such a severe peanut allergy that my kid can't bring in a snack cake with peanut butter in it cause she will have an allergic reaction.

I know parents want to protect their kids. Im not bitching about my child not being able to a friggin PB&J sandwich she hates them. My two year doesn't like peanut butter. So thats not the issue. Im wondering WHAT DO PARENTS DO WHEN THEY HAVE TO TAKE THEIR KID TO THE GROCERY STORE? Yeah in case you didn't know they sell peanuts with and without shells in the bulk food aisle. You and your child may walk in and somebody may have given their kid peanut butther crackers. What do you do other than carry an epi pen.WHat other precautions do you as parent take other than banning it at school?

I stated in the replies that I am a daycare provider. Because one child has a dairy allergy I have three refrigerators in my home. One for our dairy foods, one that only has approved foods for the 18 month old and one that has a lock on it for medicine that are required to be refrigerated. I also have seperate cooking utensils and plastic plates and silverware that gets thrown out after the kids use them so there is no cross contamination. I also split naptimes. The 18 month old naps from10 am to 12. The other kids nap from 12-2pm.

This has been the most replies I have ever gotten. I have asked questions in such a nicer non dramatic way and get no replies. Everybody says they don't want drama but obviuosly you all do.

You're very inarticulate.  What is your point exactly?

I think she is pointing out how overly demanding some moms can be when their kid has an allergy.  Many of these think we have to totally change for their kid.  In reality, they need to take more personal responsibility for what their child comes in contact with.  Sure, we can be considerate to them.  However, if my Justin loves PB&J, I'm still going to send it in his lunch.

Yeah!  Stupid parents!  They should just let their child die. *smdh*  I've never been out in public where a child came near mine with a pb snack.

oh my...guess you don't send your child to school with the full intention that the school is there to protect them from harm then huh?

I'm thinking that life is tough enough for people with severe allergies and that maybe just maybe they should have a few safe places like home and school where they spend a large of their day.  I am so thankful nobody in my family has severe food allergies, I can't imagine how hard that would be.  Compassion is a good thing to have.

I imagine they have epi pens. However, in an environment that can be monitored where they spend the majority of their time, I don't see the problem in restricting thing that can easily kill a child. It isn't as though your child can't eat peanut laden products at home or elsewhere. There is a vast array of other nutritious foods your child can eat as school. So I don't understand why parents get so upset by a small restriction.

The grocery store has peanuts in it and sometimes in open containers, the doctors office you don't know if somebody gave their kids peanut butter crackers. Stores like Target sells food, Walmart has peanuts in open conatiners. Umm there are so many places where a child may be exposed to peanuts or peanut butter not just at school. Are the kids kept at home? If so how are they going to do their grocery shopping when they get old enough to move out. You do realize most colleges do not have a peanut free cafeteria, and students get to bring whatever they want to eat to school.

I KNOW!! My kids school doesn't allow any treats in the school, he got 1 crappy little sucker and thats it for his Valentines day party! No chocolate or anything. Stupid. Same with birthdays, my kid can't even bring his friends treats to celebrate! Irritates the hell out of me!
