Hubby called off of work last week because his jobs union rules only gave him 1 day to call off in a year and if he took it he would face 10 day suspension (does NOT make him eligible for termination, it is just like a punishment) Well we are going to have our baby soon and he filed FMLA papers and they told him he has to be sure of the date of birth before he takes off, I am in non active labor now and unsure of when this baby is coming, so we paid all of our bills a month ahead and he took his 1 day off so he could get suspended on purpose and be there for the birth of our baby boy. I am excited to have him home for 10 days! His jobs union rules suck lol

I hope it works out. But without the union your husband might be getting paid alot less.

My hubby would totally do the same thing! I'm glad he is being "punished" but not at risk of being fired.

Congrats on your soon-to-be-new addition!

He wouldnt, they already said it lol his union is basically useless and he took the time to make a stand for his shift, they offered him to be 3rd shift union rep and he declined because they would want him to go 3 hrs out of town once a month and he doesnt want to be gone that long. They have a rule that if they have a snow day and he crashes in a ditch somewhere, even if he calls and lets them know about an accident it is still counted as a no call no show =/ his FMLA lady gave him the advice to do this lol that way if the baby is born at the tail end of his 10 days he gets to take an extra week off for FMLA
