I'm freaking out because my husband and I both got laid off within a week of each other and we just spent all our savings on the $18,000 hospital bills from my surgery and the NICU bill and the ambulance.. What a bum time for this to happen, but if we don't have our tax return by the end of the month we aren't going to have enough to pay rent/car payment/electric bill/etc. Was any of your refunds late? If so, how late?

We filed for unemployment but got denied because we are going to school during the day and have more than two years left so we cant look for full time employment on a regular schedule which is required. We are appealing it but we still don't have the date of the appeal yet.

Why didn't you set up a payment plan or apply for aid on the hospital bills? Doesn't seem like the smartest move using all your savings to pay for bills that you could have received help with or even pay off over awhile.

My refund was right on time.

Good luck getting everything figured out.

well we both had very good paying and secure jobs (or so we thought) and planned for this when we decided to have a baby. we didnt want to have any debt, so we saved a bunch thinking we could use it for the hospital bills and then the rest for the baby for the first year or so, and then all these complications happened and we had to pay more than we thought. we had the money and so we paid it. we had no way of knowing we'd get laid off. especially both of us! lesson learned i guess.

If you are to the point where you are going to be homeless one of you need to give up on school The person with the most done and the better higher paying career field needs to stay in school hand down.

No my return came in a week

we wont be homeless. we always pay ahead and have really good standing with the landlord. hopefully they will work with us. and thats why we are appealing the unemployment. at the end of this semester my husband will have an associates but wants to go back for his bachelors. he is going to put that on hold for the sake of our family of course but when we applied, we didnt know the requirements and they aksed how much school he had left he put 2 years, 3 months. so we are going to tell them that he is just going to be done at the end of the semester. hopefully they will change their minds.

I don't understand why you can't get unemployment just cuz you're in school. It's almost as if they're giving you incentive to drop out!

thats what i feel like too! they say if you have less than two years they do not require you to look for work, but if you have more than that you have to look for full time work. well our school schedule is Tues and Thurs from 12-4 which they say is in the middle of what would be a normal full time position, so it is preventing us from getting a job so we either have to drop out, or go without any money, and not feed our family, etc. the thing is, we both were working full time and going to school before we got laid off, so it obviously can be done.
