My 3 year old has PTSD?!

My DS had a traumatic incident at his father's involving a drunk neighbor breaking in while DS was sleeping on the couch and his equally drunk father confronting said neighbor. The pediatrician who has cared for my son since birth saw him today for his belated 3 year check up and diagnosed him after hearing the story and about the aftermath. My heart is breaking for my little guy.

Oh the poor baby! My question is why was his father intoxicated while watching ds? I hope the little guy is able to get through this.

Constantly needing to be reassured that he's safe, physically acting out, over the top separation anxiety, waking up in the middle of the night terrified, and the list goes on.

Well he was probably not drunk to the point of not being able care for his son, but he admitted to drinking and he said it was because DS was sound asleep. I didn't know about the incident until three days after I picked him up.

He's so afraid sometimes that when he feels threatened in any way he has to protect himself by punching, hitting, scratching, slapping, and tonight he attempted to stab me with a fork. All I did was tell him firmly that he had to eat dinner. :(

yea he has the same thing my son had

all you can do is reassure him that he is safe.

when he acts out like that, ask him why he is acting out.  talk to him. show him he is safe
