Am I turning my son gay?

Ok, first off, I totally believe you are born with your sexuality! I do NOT really believe I'm turning him gay, it was just an attention getter! And I am posting anon because its also an attention getter! My CM name is soulawakening82!

My son will be 3 on Thursday. His Grammy asked him today what he wants for his birthday, and he said a purse. So, she is gonna get him one! I even told her about a super cute one my friend got her niece. To me, it is no different than my 3 year old daughter (if I had one) wanting a Tonka truck! There are a lot of girl things he likes, and I have explained to him that they are girl things without making him feel weird about it, and he still wants those things, which is fine by me! DH though, not so much, which I totally don't get because he also doesn't believe you choose to be gay! But he is not happy about the purse thing! Just wondering what others think about this...?

I wouldn't get my son a purse, I would get him a briefcase though. Or a backpack. Something leather and manly.

I don't know why there is such a stigma against boys playing with girl things when it is perfectly acceptable for a girl to have hotwheels.

No outward object will ever turn a person gay so why not. The only person that would be "off" is the person drawing such a judgement on a child!!! Now that person has problems!

I think its perfectly fine.

At the daycare I work at we have extra gloves, hats, mittens, ect for the kids who dont bring any in. I have one little boy (age 3) who always asks for the pink mittens. Not a big deal. lol He also likes to play in the dramatic play area with dolls. Again, not a big deal to me. If he wants to wear pink & practice being a good daddy with the baby dolls, I think its great.

My son bought a pink Dora purse with his allowance when he was four. He loved it and varied it everywhere-filled with trains and tools.

Kids that young will want to be like mommy...doesn't mean he's turning gay...playing with a purse at a friends house or at school is one thing...buying him a purse is quite another...just tell him purses are for girls and buy him a backpack...

Gay men can be "manly", too, so it really doesn't matter.

If he wants a purse it's probably because he wants to be like YOU.  You should feel flattered.

Exactly. My dd played with trains and ds played barbies with dd. Dd likes boys now and ds has a gf. No biggie.
