Did you marry a semi illiterate who can't keep a job?

I did. He gets fired every 6mos to a year for something stupid, he can't read or write above a fourth grade level, and I wish I hadn't married him. We have a step child he pays child support for, but I end up paying it when he's out of work!
You may wonder why I married him... I do too. I thought he had potential, was sweet, and had just gotten a tough break most of his life. Now I see it has been him making his own tough breaks all along :(

He took classes to train as a first responder and passed the test, but then failed the other certifications. We've been through this before a few years back over a cdl license. Couldn't pass the test for anything... and didn't try hard enough IMO, though I helped him study (when he would allow me to) and bought him an online study course!

Have you considered to be the bread winner of relationship? If you are smarter and have better skills maybe you can go to work and make the larger income, and maybe he can work part time and take care of the home and kids. Or if he has a trade skill he is good at maybe he can just stick to that, our do contracting or free lance work... and you have the full time income.

ETA - sometimes we have to recognize our strengths and weaknesses within ourselves and our relationship.

Nope.  I married a man that held his HS job (working at sears) until he graduated college and got another one, worked there for 5 years until they would not give him a raise to match the head hunter that found him, he left with the head hunter and has been there 13 years.
