When did you start? Why did you start? Haven't the ads about cancer and pictures of black lungs and the fact that you are shortening you life expectancy, and in essence taking yourself away from your child/children? It seems interesting to me and I would like to know your reasons. Not looking down on you just curious.
couldn't you say that about any addiction really? Yes, anyone with an addiction knows they are killing themselves. They know it's destroying their life and hurting others, but as with any addiction, just stopping is not going to happen for most. I believe smoking is one of the hardest addictions to overcome because of the accessibility to it, and the less initial devastating effects. I don't smoke btw, I quit when I got pregnant, and it really wasn't that hard for me, but I do understand the hold that addiction has on some.

Dude is this stemming from the "smoking moms are trashy post"??
Right on!!!

OK I'll bite.
I started at 7 because the older neighbor kids thought it was cute. I still smoke because my husband doesn't want to die and when I'm deprived of caffeine or nicotine I get homicidal. ;) Now you know.
i started when i was 15 stopped when i was 16 started back up when i was 18 quit when i got pregnant (at 19) started back about a month after my son was born it's more of a "i have nothing better to do" thing, it's either that or i eat i only do it a couple times a day cuz i am a sahm and i don't leave my son to do it i only do it when my hubby is home and i NEVER do it around my son or in the car with my son
I started at 14 and was just at a bad place. My gramps had just passed, my boyfriend broke up with me, and i had bad depression and self esteem issues and the peer pressure got to me. I hate myself for it now and want to quit but that is much easier said than done after smoking for almost 10 years. If I knew then what i know now i never would have started.
I started at 15 because everyone was doing it (dumb). Tried to quit when I got pregnant but I couldn't. My children were both born healthy, good birth weights, grew up to be healthy adults. One is a surgeon and the other is an engineer, so it didn't seem to affect their intelligence. The engineer smokes herself (unfortunately, I so wish she hadn't picked up the habit for her sake), my son does not. I don't advocate smoking while pregnant, but out of all the horror stories the only one that seems to hold water is the low birth weight one. Yes, I freak out when I see the new commercials on TV, and I have quit in the past only to go back. I would love to quit for good and will continue to try. It's very hard. I try to be courteous with my smoking and not offend non-smokers with my habit.
