You're an Atheist yet...

You say ''Oh God help me!'' or ''Thank God!''. I don't know to me if you believe there is NO God then why thank Him or acknowledge Him, right? So, maybe you are not an atheist after all? My co-worker makes it very clear that she does NOT believe in any God or higher power yet, God comes out of her mouth often. She even says God Bless you when someone sneezes. Just an observation on my behalf that is all.

I say "oh your God" instead of oh my god. I say bless you when someone sneezes, it's polite.

that is an interesting thought.  I'm Pagan and I just say Bless you.  :)  Maybe it's a habit?  What should they say?  Any ideas?  Maybe Thank Luck!  lol

Exactly! I say, "Good gravy!" all the time. It doesn't mean I'm eating tasty gravy.

I admit i do that.  However, I grew up hearing it and it's just a phrase.  It's like saying "for the love of Mike" or "for Pete's sake."

Honestly, when I catch myself, I will stop myself from saying it.  If I feel the need to invoke the name of a deity, I usually pick Thor or Odin.  I don't believe in them, but I like their style.

I also say "Jesus Fucking Christ" when I stub my toe.

It doesn't mean I believe in fairy tales.

I know people who say "Jimminy Cricket" when they hurt themselves.. I'll have to let them know they are believers in cartoon characters LOL

They're just figures of speech, they're not exclusive to Christians.

I say "Sweet baby Jesus" all the time and I am an Atheist.  It's just a phrase.
