Is there a tactful way to do this or should I just stay out of it?

My bil's girlfriend has a 7 month old, and it seriuosly looks like she's never clipped his fingernails. There some are curled down, some curl up, but they are WAY longer than they should be. She's only 19, and idk if maybe she's too scared to clip them? Is there a way that I could tactfully suggest she clip them, or offer to clip them myslelf? Or find out if she even has clippers, because I have an extra pair?? Or should I just stay out of it. I feel so bad for the little guy, and I'm completely surprised that his face isn't completely covered in scratches!

Without saying anything you should clip them in front of her and then kindly say "hey if you want to keep these you can, I have an extra set."

I would offer to clip them, she might be scared. I would say something like," do you want to clip your babies nails. I remember how scared I was the first time." Maybe that would help.

This is a good one maybe even recommend a nail file instead of cutting

Next time shes over make a comment about cutting your kids nails and how scared you were to cut them when they were little.

I too would stay out of it.  It is between your bil and his girlfriend.

Do you get along with her? If you do, then there shouldn't be a problem with you saying anything to her. Let her know that if he does scratch his little face, it could get infected, and that would really suck. Tell her that if she's too afraid to do it herself, that you'll do it for her! Honestly, for the longest time, I either filed the kids' nails, or I bit them off. Nothing sucks worse than clipping the finger!! :(

If you don't get along with her, then you should tell your BIL to say something to her. I don't see why that would be a problem. But, don't say anything to him about it, until the baby is in front of you guys. Then you could just look at him, and show him the nails, and say "Doesn't she clip his nails?" Or something like that....

She could be scared. My boyfriend refuses to cut our son's nails after an incident he had with him. He pinched his skin in the nail clippers and our son screamed that worst scream I've ever heard. I have been the only one cutting them since that day.
Maybe make a casual comment and offer her some help. Because if they are starting to curl, that is not okay..

Next time you see him, hold him and make a comment that his finger nails are longed and scratched you. Play it by ear but maybe ask mom if you can clip them for her since you carry a pair of clippers in your purse.

I met a mom about 2 years ago who was afraid to clip her first babies nails. The baby was a little over a month old and her nails were getting long. We were at a play group and for some reason I had my kids nail clippers in my purse so I clipped them for her. It just started as me say "wow her nails are long already" and the mom said that she was scared to cut them... so i did it, no big deal really...

Just ask her openly if she needs help with his nails or something to that effect.
