Court...what to expect

My son was assaulted last week and his phone stolen. Robbery charges were filed and the boy is in jail until court. We have a tentative court date. His mother has hired an attorney. I was told today by the juvenile officer that an officer would be coming by with a summons to appear in court and my son would have to tell what happened. I do not want this boy to get a lesser charge or off for what he did. Has anyone been in this situation before? What should I expect?

Unfortunately it's not up to you or your son if the boy gets a lesser charge. If he pleads for something lesser, that's what will happen. All I can tell you is make sure you show up and tell the whole story truthfully. You don't want to give them any reason to doubt your son.

It's up to the prosecutor to decide what charges the other boy will face.  He may or may not offer the kid a deal *but* the judge isn't always required to accept that.  The summons is just a formality to ensure that your son will show up at Court to tell his side of the story.  They'll ask him questions about what happens.  All he has to do is answer the questions truthfully and he should be fine.
