I have a 3 year old female pit bull (no judgement, she;s a sweetheart) and she's around my niece all the time and has never done anything at all but she's never been around a newborn. We're due in December and I'm not sure how our dog is going to react to the baby.

What did you do to introduce new baby to your pet? any suggestions?

Get rid of the dog. If she eats your baby you'll never forgive yourself!!!!!!

My pup was a little unsure but my husband his his alpha so he introduced them since about day three they have been best friends. We did make sure to also keep spending one on one time with our pup so he never felt left out. And my mil came home first with stuff that smelled like our son. We also set up the baby stuff early and let him check stuff out.

I had two siberian huskies when I had my second child :)

They know .... trust me they know ....

But it is important that they understand the rules that no touching baby unless you are near by and the first week is kina crazy because they are obsessed prolly wanna see the baby.

Whatever you do, don't decline your attention to them! The pets that is! They can get jealous!!!! I often wonder why that is why some pets lash out on kids....... (not excusing but its understandable) when your humons suddenly ignore you for that swirmie thing!).

Eventually they adapt to the new member and new life. But remember they had a certain type of life before that baby came... Help them adjust.

While you're in the hospital, have your so or a family member bring an outfit baby has worn, maybe more than one and put it where the dog sleeps. The books reccomend it so dog knows how baby smells. I did that with dd. Our dog will come over and smell her sometimes but other than that, its fine. And when ya get home, don't keep the dog away all the time, that can create jealousy which is dangerous. Allow the dog near baby but teach boundaries. If baby has his or her own room, don't allow dog in there. But in family rooms etc, just allow her to sniff, etc. It's normal. And of course don't ever leave her alone with baby cause doggie may try to "help" when baby is crying and could potentially hurt baby.

Yes buy a doll that makes baby noises, treats it like your actual baby, she needs to get use to the crying, you paying lots of attention to something else, etc.

I had my dad bring home a receiving blanket that dd was wrapped in. Also we let him get used to and smell all the babies things.

I have three dogs-2 huskies and 1 pitbull! My husband was very strict when introducing the dogs to the baby. We are there pack leaders.....this is what he did.......left the baby is her carrier when we came home, leashed the dogs up and took them for a lil quick walk around the block then brought them back home and made them all sit and took each dog one by one while holding the leash to smell the baby. the dogs were not allowed to put them nose completely into the baby but just smell around; after introducing each separately he let them all go sniff together....Its very important u establish that the baby is not there property or toy. Everytime my dogs got into my daughters boundaries we would pull them back from her......they caught on very quick and to this day are perfect with her
