Upset over something stupid

My 3 yr old has mild Autism Spectrum Disorder. Ome of his biggest issues is emotions. He doesn't understand how to speak them. I have yet to hear the words I love you from him. I say it all the time to him and all I get is no no no.

Well 2 days ago he was talking to my mom and at the end she said love you. He said love you back to her. On one hand I am happy he finally said it, but I wanted the first I love you (which he hasn't said again).

I know it is stupid to be upset by this, but I am.

((hugs)) that must hurt. I'm sorry. I hope he's able to say it back soon.

I hope so to. I know it is stupid to be upset over, but it really hurt. I was even mad at my mom though she did nothing wrong.

No it's not stupid to be upset over.Any of us would be. I know for sure I would. It makes you feel like it's something you did I can only imagine.

I feel you in a way. My son said everyone's name. Everyone's. Complete strangers names. But he called me by my first name. Not mama. I didn't hear mama from my first born until he was almost two. :-(

That happened to my DH. Our oldest didn't say dada in any form until 2 1/2. But he still barely uses any ones names beside mom and dad.
