I see all these moms on CM saying they feed their kids fast food-but only on once in a while. Or they'll say their kids drink soda, have punch, chips, etc. only once in a while-as a treat. They say the kids are active, play sports, only play video games once in a while.
So either all the health-conscious moms in America are on CM, or some of them are lying.
1 out of 3 kids are overweight or obese.
About 1 in 400 children and adolescents have diabetes.
So who here is in denial?

I use a fan for noise lol
Quoting LilyofPhilly:Oh, I know! What is up with parents having to leave a TV on all day and night-"for background noise"?

Well not me. Been since 07 and still haven't seen a reason to lie on here. My kids do only get soda as a treat- the sugar in it turns them into crazy kids (they get no caffiene, I'm not a glutton for punishment)
Fast food is a treat for us all...I prefer to cook. But on those nights I'm feeling lazy...bk or papa johns it is!
And the kids aren't old enough to play video games imo (5,4,3, 5 months) but when they are, they'll be buying the system themselves, just because its how I was raised and it taught me to appreciate my belongings..
And what the hell is with the tv in a toddlers room fad?? My sister has a tv in every room, and I just don't understand it.
I'll be the first one to admit I have terrible eating habits, and its something I struggle with. Which is probably why I have a hard time losing weight.
My kids on the other hand eat so well. I try my hardest to make sure they eat tons of fresh foods. If it comes in a box its most likely too processed. They love it. We eat eggs for breakfast, salads, fresh fruit smoothies (homemade), grilled fish and veggies. There is a great inexpensive farm stand near us that I love to take the kids to to let them explore new foods.
I found myself succumbing to the fast food 'easiness' when we moved. Our fridge was empty -at both houses- and it was so easy to whip through the drive thru in between packing, unpacking, and an out of state move. I will never do that again. I swear fast food has additives in it that make it hard to 'quit'.
I'm that way too. I sleep with the radio goin' all night long. I did it for the kids when they were babies to...to kinda drown out the noise of the house.
I do like silence as well though too:o)

I'm into the Tv. I cannot stand silence. My Tv is on now with no one watching. I just like the noise. LOL.

My hubby is the one who won't eat his veggies.

Except the veggies part. I love them, she won't touch them with a ten foot pole. I think she has too many starches.
Quoting Dani_Lynn:
Sounds like she eats healthy to me!

About once a month I'll get her chicken nuggets, once a month we order pizza and wings, once or twice a month we go out to eat. We try to avoid junk food and cook from scratch but my kid Only likes to eat chicken, cheese, milk, yogurt, fresh fruit smoothies, apples/applesauce (no sugar added kind), pasta, bread, cheerios, potatoes, and a few other things. I can't even get her to drink the naked juice with veggies in them. I admit it's not healthy but I don't know how to get her to eat better. I can't force feed her.
I have no reason to lie.
My children eat fast food - more often than "just occasionally". Lol.
They drink pop almost daily.
We eat "homecooked", but do not go out of our way to make it "healthy". Our meals mimic closely what my husband and I grew up eating - homemade meatloaf, steaks and mac/cheese on my end; heavy on the carbs Italian cooking on my husband's end. Our meals always include a meat (except during Lent), a starch, a vegetable, and generally a bread.
Neither child is overweight by any stretch of the imagination. Both are very active children who have parents that believe in moderation over restriction - and not close moderation at that. They play outside for hours; my eldest plays in the neighborhood with friends until they are called in at dark and my 3 year old plays outside with me in the yard for an hour or so a day. When the weather is nasty or we just don't feel like going out, they chase the dogs in the house :P We encourage finger paint in the kitchen, our cabinets are filled with fun things to bang and clang, and we have a dozen bookshelves throughout the house filled with interesting things to read.
It isn't uncommon for my daughter and her friends to come running in the house from a bike ride to grab a glass of soda and a Popsicle or brownie.
Both children also have full access to the televisions, computers, laptops, tablets, and video games in the house... and they enjoy using them all. My daughter especially loves Words With Friends and watching Criminal Minds. My 3 year old loves playing Starfall on the tablet and watching Umizoomi clips :)
I am more interested in why *some* children allowed access to technology choose that over unfettered access to sports or active play; or why some children gain weight from eating junk food but others do not. I know it has to do with genetics; but what other factors play into it?
I am a Home Schooling, Vaccinating, Non spanking, Nightmare Cuddling, Dessert Giving, Bedtime Kissing, Book Reading, Academic pushing Mother. I believe in the benefit of organized after school activities and nosey, involved parents. I believe in spoiling my children. I believe that I have seen the village and I do not want it raising my child. I believe that my place, as a woman, is in the home caring for my husband and children. My husband is head of our home. What about some homemade sweet potato chips/fries? Use a little sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar.
