HELP! My 2 year old won't eat!

His pediatrician says it's poetry normal at this age, but I worry.

We don't eat a lot of red meat in our family. (I don't eat meat at all.) They mainly eat chicken & turkey, occasionally fish.

Here lately, DS eats *maybe* one small bite. I've tried eggs, pasta, pizza, fruit, different veggies, cereal, oatmeal, and every thing else I can think of. Nothing is working.

Any other suggestions??

Most children his age are grazers. It's not a big deal for him to skip meals. Do NOT give him pediasure it's loaded with sugar and you will create a picky eater by caving and giving him that crap. Some kids need it but this is a just a phase. Let him eat a few bites and if he's done he's done not a big deal. :)

Truly, he will eat when he's hungry.  Don't give him juice or other sweet things between meals, or even a lot of milk between meals.  Eat WITH him (it's not too early to teach the social aspects of eatng together).  Put small amounts of food on his plate, and let him eat it - without coaxing, rewarding, or even talking about it much.  Make sure he gets plenty of active, outside time.

Then, realize that proper food amounts for kids that age is measured in spoonfuls per WEEK.

That's what his doc says.

I don't think he is teething. I have always been able to tell, but I could be wrong. :)

Thanks. I don't remember my DD ever being like this. She ate all the time. Now, it's a different story. Lol.

Crazy how kids can be like night and day.

I don't believe in giving them anything like Pediasure, unless his doctor recommends it.

He likes avocados, sometimes. Lol. I'm not sure if he would drink something like that. :)

I do try to eat with him, but since I am a vegetarian, we eat differently. I don't give him any extra milk, and he drinks only water, with the occasional apple juice (100% juice, no sugar added).

I had no idea it was measured by week! Crazy. :)

I've worked with kids for 10 years I swear none of them have ever been alike! Most people just jump on the pediasure bandwagon when it just not needed. It drives me batty how much sugar is in a drink the supposed help them. Heck give them a vitamin and doughnut it's the same thing.

I think it also comes with inserting their independence. Maybe have him help you cool dinner or let him put his food on his plate? Most kids do it for control ( which is natural)

All 3 of my kids were like this. The pediatrician is right and he will eat when he's hungry.
