How do you feel about them? What are your thoughts? What assumptions do you make?

I don't even think I'd be able to pick out where the welfare office is...It's just other humans walking in and out of a building- I'd go to my usual points of judgement...

I just think that they need help? I always hope they are not abusing the system but sense I joined Cafemom I have seen so many women bragging about the food stamps they get and what kind of food they get. One yesterday said she goes to the store right away and gets steak and shrimp. Then she was bragging about her great house and great car. She said she babysits sometimes and gets paid under the table so they can't find out She was bragging about all kinds of things, then said she doesn't live trashy. I told her she might not live trashy but she is trashy. How many of us that work and are not on welfare can buy steak and shrimp every month

Anything is possible. You are sadly mistaken if you think it won't happen to you. What happens if you get laid off from your job and can not find another job no matter how much effort you put into looking. And your unemployment runs out.

When I was looking for work and couldn't find anything, I went to McDonald's only to be told I was over qualified.

So what are you gonna do if bad luck does come knocking on your door. If you care about your kids you will be standing in the welfare line. Doing the best you can. So the person behind the counter can judge you and say how lazy you are because you can't support your family.

how exactly would that happen?  How would we fall upon such hard times?  I mean seriously?  there are jobs out there, lots of jobs for qualified skilled individuals.  I got laid off from the CHIP program, collected unemployment to the tune of $581/week.  went back to work in nursing as an agency nurse, still collecting unemployment.  I can still earn $232/week and maximum uc... not anywhere NEAR the money I earned working.. guess what, we can still feed our children..

Quoting Anonymous:

I highly doubt it was you that they needed. Get off your high horse.

I hope you don't fall on hard time. Sounds to me your kids would starve before you would suck up your pride and get help. That would make you unable to support your family.

doubtful, they needed me... I really couldn't care a bit about the opinion of those who can't support themselves, let alone their families...not to mention, I made commission on everyone I enrolled... in fact, I still get quarterly checks for those who still remain enrolled....

Quoting TrouserMouse:

People may have been thinking the same about you.

i used to go there to enroll people in CHIP and medicaid... and I thought NOTHING nice.....

Quoting ColieO:

Exactly. Lol

Quoting PEEK05:

I was going to say, how would you see someone walking into the welfare office if you weren't in the welfare office as well??

Quoting Anonymous:

I don't visit the welfare office so I can't really say.

sell our time shares, spend savings, cash in investments, sell our rentals, sell assets, cash in 401K's and 403b's.  get training in an area that was hiring...instead of managing the company, hubs would go back on the road, downsize, clean homes, babysit kids, go back to selling insurance...return to political work....the list goes on...

Nothing b/c our welfare/cs/fs/probation officers are all in one building so its hard to judge who is in for what.

I try not to judge. There are people who are doing the best they can to getby and need a little help. But  we all know not all of them are honest hard working people doin the best they can. That is where the'system' is flawed.

Here is what makes me mad. I think that if you are to be on any goverment assistance program that you should only be so when you are out of options. Give up the fancy car(s) the iphone, the cable, eating out, going to movies and so on. I have heard so many times a scenerio like the following. Woman A is in line at the grocery store buying a whole chicken, some canned veggies and some pasta knowing that she can make roasted chicken tonight and soup tommorow night water or tea to drink, all to save money. She  carries it out to her 1990's car and goes home to eat and watch one of the two channels she can get without a cable subscription. Meanwhile woman B in line has porterhouse steak., organic vegetables and bakery cake. The food goes on a  card swiped with freshly manicured nails and the woman proceeds to leave in her brand new suv, and goes home to 100 channels. Guess which one is on assistance?
