I let my son play outside unattended.

I have a 5yo and an infant. I don't take the infant outside, and our yard is fenced in. No dogs. He has a play tent outside and he's outside playing with bubbles. The back door is open so I can see him and hear him. Is this bad?

Why? All that's out there is grass. We don't have a deck, so no stairs or anything to fall off of.

Chew as in they have to try more than once (50% of the time) to penetrate the skin in order to inject venom. They don't actually chew their prey, and they don't prey on animals to large. If a larger animal (or person) is bitten, it's usually on the fingers or toes or for protecting themselves when they feel threatened. Also, your second link is from a real estate place and is most definitely not a good source for scientific information. Where was this child "chewed"? What state and city? When? Sorry, but my family has owned these snakes, so an education in facts is a way of life ...

Well if your kid isn't safe, then mine is playing in a minefield. Our girls are outside all day and we don't even have a fence! :P

Luling TX, the baby was laid in blue bonnets for pictures I know for a fact the baby was chewed my cousin was an EMT on sight, they concluded along with doctors the baby must have been laid on or next to the snake and  chewed on the parents admitted to hearing the baby scream but thought it was just upset from being laid on the ground ...... I think it happened right around easter that is usually the time most people do the blue bonnet pictures,I was at my aunt's house and they were talking about how bad the snakes were this year that's when my cousin told us about the baby being chewed up. i must say also any old timer around here agrees that coral snakes chew I have heard that my whole life growing up in TX...
