Worried about my dd...hearing voices and hurting animals....

My ex approached me with an issue he is having with our dd at his house. She is extremely mean to their two cats. She has been caught choking, hitting, and throwing them. I know she had an issue a couple of years ago with being overly aggressive with animals but I had no idea she was doing this sort of thing since I don't have any pets. She is 5 years old. Old enough to know how to properly treat animals imo. I asked her today why she is being mean to the cats and she said because something in her head is telling her to. I said what in your head? And she replied voices. Specifically, a grasshopper named controller freak. I asked what happens when she tells the voice no? And she replied he keeps telling her to.

I don't even know what to think. She was seeing a therapist a few months ago and we stopped it because the therapist told us she was a normal happy 5 year old and there were no red flags. Is this normal behavior? Or a sign of something going on? Should I take her back to a therapist?

My husband smashed a bunch of chicks (baby chickens) with a huge rock when he was 5 and was laughing about it... As disturbing as it is he is a good man and doesn't hurt animals. But he never has voices in his head like your dd. I'm sorry and I hope you can figure things out. GL

It sounds imaginary to me but I am not an expert and I would have an expert talk to her to rule out any disorders asap.
as for the abuse... has she witnessed abuse ever? Violent movies or games? The whole grasshopper thing sounds like kung fu panda. Maybe what she is watching on tv could be affecting her?

My cousin was like that when he was little, hurting animals and hearing voices... my aunt took him to a Dr. and they said he was just acting out. He was in prison for murder by 17... Take your little girl back and make sure she gets seen, GL mama

My 4 year olds have been caught being mean to animals, but they never said anyone/thing told them too, they just did & they were sorry for it. I would get a second opinion for sure. Keep us updated!

Yeah it's extremely scary. Especially because I have a baby due in a month. :( It's also very disheartening. You hear about psychopaths starting out being cruel to animals...I just hate to think she is doing something even close to that. And then to say a voice told her to?

Quoting Thelmama:

And good luck, y'all must be so scared. Hugs and prayers.

Wow, I can't imagine what you're going through. This is definitely not normal. I would go see a child psychologist immediately. Good luck mama.
