Buying vs. Renting

Do you own or rent your home?

For those that own their home, do you find it better than renting? Or is renting better?

We currently are renting. We have been looking to move for the past 5 months and haven't found a thing. I can find at least 10 different places to check out to buy, but everyone in my family says it's not worth it.

Much better, cheaper and we can do as we please! :-) no inspections etc. I love owning a house!

We rent. We are not wanting to buy a home until we figure out where (and if) our children will be going to school. They are only 3 and 1 right now and we have not yet decided where (and if) they are going to school.

We own. We aren't throwing money away each month on rent but the best part - we can paint our walls colors! We rented for a few years and those white walls drove me nuts!!!!!

it totally depends. me and my husband have been married 10 years. we have always rented just cuz it fits w/ our lifestyle better. we move around a lot. like once every couple of years. which would be hard to do if you own. all we have to do is pack up and go. plus we don't have to worry about maintaining anything. just call the landlord or manager and they come and fix it and take care of it. for us, renting is better. we love renting and have no plans on buying a house for anytime soon. we enjoy the freedom and luxuries of renting. maybe in 5-10 years we will look into buying. but we happy renting for the time being.

We owned a home for 14 years and then lost it.  About half way through we did a second mortgage to fix the place up and in the end we walked away with nothing for our efforts and only were able to pay it down $20,000 in those 14 years.  Our home is now worth $90,000 less than what was owed on it.  So now we rent a house that is double the size of the one we owned.  In a couple years we may or may not make an offer to buy it from the owner.  I honestly love being able to pick up the phone and say hey this is broken, come fix it on your dime instead of having to figure out where the repair money is coming from.
