Maybe in the backwoods somewhere. A REAL up-to-date, board certified Pediatrician told me and MANY other parents differently.

Quoting Jennyanne322:

Well that's how 3 doctors told me how to clean it. Sorry, but I'll believe the person that went to med school over someone I have never met before.

Quoting Mazie0723:

You are not suppose to retract the skin.. smh

Quoting Jennyanne322:

Nope. You have to slide the foreskin back and wipe the penis tip with a q-tip. I found it pretty gross to do. He would of ha his circomsized in the happiest, but we were only there for a little over 24 hours.

Quoting cherrywaves21:

I'm confused as to how you clean it? You wipe it off just like a circ'd penis.

Quoting Jennyanne322:

My son had to wait two months to have his done cause of the way the appointments and OR space fell. I was so excited and couldn't wait for it to happen also. I hated cleaning in. Wish him and you the best of luck.

A child at that age WILL feel it and newborns FEEL IT and yes it hurts. you people really need to do some research. I think you also need to watch a few videos.

Quoting Anonymous:

They say the recovery is extremely fast, as they don't start having feeling down there until 2+ . It will be a quick in and out with dissolved stitches all around. Just a little neosporen for a few days and he is good should be back to himself within an hour or two from anesthesia

Quoting jonellg:

I don't think I would do it, it seems like at 1 they would be very aware of the pain and recovery would be longer.

Quoting Anonymous:

When he was born they were going to do it but his shaft was still attached to the scrotum. So we had to wait for it to grow and detach. He has been cleared for a few months but wanted to wait til he was closer to a year old because of anesthesia

Quoting jonellg:

why would he have to wait?

OR space? They actually did it in an operating room?

Quoting LoveMyBugz:

No you do not retract an intact penis to clean! Premature retraction causes all sorts of issues. You wipe like a finger. It would only be retracted to clean once it's naturally retractable. and by the time that is the case, the boy *should* be old enough to clean it himself.

Why the hell would cleaning your own baby be gross. What? Are you 12 yrs old or something?

Lol I live in NYC. We have probably some of the best hospitals and doctors in the world.
One of those doctors was a peds urologist, one being my sons doctor, and the other being the doctors and nurses that showed me how to clean it when he was born.

Lol at your cut and paste replies to me and several others making the same point.
Doctors that graduated medical school less recently were not as educated on intact penile care. It's due to the fact circumcision used to be routine and whole boys were a rarity. Now that the circumcision rate has dropped, more education on proper care is being provided to doctors and parents alike.
My son was just born and the hospital, pediatrician, and his specialist all reitterated to me the importance of not retracting since it breaks skin adhesions and can cause permanent damage.
I would reccomend you research or find a new intact friendly doc but you are a lost cause. It's probably a good thing you circ'd so you do not continue potentially harming your son.

Now, I am bowing out of this post. Have a good day.
