Most Black people dont like being called "African Americans"!!

Im not African American..Im black. I have absolutely No roots or heritage in africa. I do have roots however in great great great great ancestory in South America. Im not African american anymore than you are European american.

We are Black..as you are white...and we are AMERICAN as you are AMERICAN.

feel free to spread the word

Edit: If you find offense to this, or think i am bitching or complaining ..then you are a close minded drama whore. Im simply informing those that may not know. NO different then a mother with a disabled children stating that she prefers her child to be called "special needs" instead of "mental retardation".

I never said black people take OFFENSE to it. No where am I pulling a "race card" argument. This was merely a statement. NEVER said that if you SAY African american that you are Racist. lol Thats so simple minded. I see on this site many mothers that say "african american" trying to be sweet and politically correct to not step on toes or look racist. Soooo im telling you that its OKAY to say BLACK PEOPLE! Its nota offensive and most of us prefer it!

It is 2012, and although our PARENTS were raised in a generation where racisim was MORE prevailant then it is today, it was more acceptable to say "African american". However in the NEW generation with a BLACK president, times have changed! Most black people PREFER to be called BLACK. If you dont feel COMFORTABLE with this then FINE! Call us African American..i didnt say that it OFFENDS us. We arent offended eithier Way. BUT im just letting you know that you dont have to "dance around" or "hesitate" to say BLACK people!!!

6/9/2012 12:00PM (EST) EDIT:   ONCE AGAIN FOR THE UP-TEENTH TIME, I SAID "MOST' BLACK PEOPLE. NOT ALL..     BUT  FOR THE "LINKS OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN" PEOPLE OR THOSE THAT THINK IM JUST CREATING SHIT OUT OF MY ASS...BELOW ARE SEVERAL LINKS FROM VARIOUS SITES WITH POLLS FROM RECENT (FEB 2012) BACK TO THE EARLY 90'S, THAT SAY THE EXACT SAME THING! I LOVE HOW THOSE THAT ARE NOT BLACK ARE ATTEMPTING TO WEIGH IN ON HOW BLACK PEOPLE SHOULD OR SHOULDNT FEEL ABOUT THE TERMINOLOGY. AGAIN, I SAID IT DOES NOT OFFEND US IF YOU CALL US AFRICAN AMERICAN. AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE GET YOUR POINT. HOWEVER, THE PREFERENCE OF THE MAJORITY IS BLACK!!!

I know a woman who prefers to be called colored because "I ain't black, I'm brown" but there are plenty of people out there who would slap you or even stab you if you called them colored.

Quoting Anonymous:

So don't say African American or black because depending on who you're talking to your racist...

But I am European American.  lol

I agree with you.

We need to get rid of Caucasian as well.  I'm white, I'm not Caucasian.

Good to know...I always refer to my husband as black because he isn't american, he was born in Uganda and grew up in London. While we were living in the states he always commented on how naive it was to assume all black people were african american. But I do know some people who don't like being referred to as black. It goes both ways, it's just about each individuals personal preference. I say let's just all refer to each other as people.

Don't speak for me, I actually don't care.  My roots are definitely from Africa.

Mulatto is also a pretty racist word. It is what white people/slave owners called the babies of slaves who were raped by their slave owners. People have called me mulatto ignorantly, I don't get mad, but I prefer mixed if I am going to be labled.

Idc. As long as you're not derogatory, it's ok.

Good to know, honestly I never understood why we are to call black people "African American" while we are just white people but as a white person, I figured that's one of the questions we aren't allowed to ask.
