Wal-Mart steals from their employees

I just found out that, even though I worked Memorial Day, I won't be getting holiday pay; even though Memorial Day is recognized by Wal-Mart as a paid holiday. You know why? Because I didn't work the day before because I had requested it off. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but if you work ON the actual holiday, shouldn't you get holiday pay? In my opinion this is stealing.
At my wife's work you don't have to work the day before but you have to work a normal work week in order to get the extra holiday pay.
my dh works for sara lee and that is how it works there as well...if the you voluntarily take the day off before a holiday than you just get regular pay on that holiday...same with over time and so forth...pretty standard and a i am sure if you read the employee handbook it tells you straight out the same thing

Nope. It's pretty standard actually. Actually I know a lot of jobs where you gave to work the day before and the day after or you don't get the holiday pay.
Well, company policy states that you have to work the day of the holiday and either the day before or the day after.
*Edit*
Or you might have to work both. I'd have to ask my husband again how it works.
