That put my two year old in time out during the family bbq for hitting another kid. It may be normal behavior for a two year old, but it's still bad behavior that must be corrected. Yes I saw her do it, yes I found a secluded spot, told her she was going in time out for hitting, made her sit in time out, got down to her level, explained hitting is not nice, gave her a hug, told her I loved her, than made her say sorry for hitting. Did she hit again all day? Nope and I'd do it again. I heard your smart comments, but my kid behaved the rest of the day so take that asshole!

I once put dd in time out on the side walk in Chicago. Anywhere she can misbehave, she can be disciplined.

I've done it in a resturant and a store before.

Oh, I get it. No, he was wrong and you're right to start disciplining your child from an early age. You weren't harsh or mean--time outs are appropriate at that age.

A few years down the line, I wonder which of you will have a well-behaved child and which will be complaining about his out-of-control kids (or else blaming their teachers and everyone else for their behavior)?

Quoting Anonymous:

An asshole at the bbq. I heard him saying I was being harsh and mean, that kids will be kids, that I made a scene and made people uncomfortable. Oh well. My child behaved from that point on.

Quoting jhslove:

I don't see the problem here. Is your post directed at any particular asshole?
