Mom Confessions Mom Confessions

I don't buy it when a SAHM says her family can't afford for her to work *clarification*

If your family can't afford for you to work, how in the heck can a single mom afford to do it? I find it hilarious that some of the same women claiming that they can't work are the ones criticizing those on PA. If something happens to your little slice of heaven and you end up a single mom, what are you going to do? Since supposedly you can't afford to work when you have someone else supplying money for housing, food, and etc., how could you do it without them?

My point in posting this was that a lot of the people who are criticizing people on PA are SAHMs. How in the world can a single mom do it by herself without PA? I am not bashing SAHMs, but I think it's a bit hypocritical that these same women don't work themselves.

I have been a SAHM, I have been a single (widowed) mom, I have also been the sole provider for my family and part of a two income family. I honestly have to say it was easier to provide for my family on two incomes. I am not bitter or jealous of anyone. I just question why it is that so many SAHMs are rude or judgmental towards those on PA. In my opinion it is a case of  "There but for the grace of God go I."

Again, what do you expect a single mom to do? A married mom can at least work out a schedule where her husband watches the kids for a few hours while she works. A single mom doesn't have that luxury.

But why would you have kids if the best you could ever do was to earn minimum wage? Divorce is real. Abandonment is real.  Who makes their kids hostages to marriage?

My husband makes too much for us to qualify for assistance with daycare. I could afford to work but everything i made would go to daycare so whats the point in that? If i was single i could get help with childcare.

I have no clue. I'm not a single mom. But there are programs out there to help when one's income is only a minimum wage job.

So how is a single mom supposed to do it?

Quoting purpleducky:

Minimum wage doesn't pay for daycare.

What if he were to run out on you with some skank? You don't get life insurance for that.

Quoting Anonymous:

Its called life insurance. If my DH were to pass id get 350 K Which would pay off our mortgage and car and leave a good chunk in the bank. Without those expenses I would be in a better position to find a job and afford daycare. As it is now id be working JUST to pay daycare tuition. What's the point of that?

Why does everyone assume a husband and wife can so easily work opposite shifts? LOL
