I hate it that so many women do not understand how their own bodies work. It drives me nuts! So...

1. The average woman as a monthly cycle of 28 days. It can deviate some or it can deviate a lot. Some women rarely have a period but that is usually because there is something else going on, like PCOS.

2. During that cycle a woman is only fertile for a few days (or not at all if a woman has an anovulatory period).

3. The days which a woman IS fertile (fertile = when a woman can get pregnant) is centered around her ovulation (ovulation = when the egg or eggs are released).

4. Sperm can last up to 5 days in the right environment (right environment = when there is 'egg white' mucus present inside the woman).

5. When a man's sperm gets into or even near a woman's vagina (sperm can be released either in pre-cum or cum), it immediately starts to travel to her Fallopian tubes. Having fertile (aka egg white mucus) present in the woman makes the sperm's trip easier. If no egg is present (aka woman has not ovulated or egg is already gone), sperm dies.

6. When an egg is released, it goes into the woman's Fallopian tube. One of two things happens - either it meets with a sperm and gets fertilized or it goes into the uterus unfertilized.

7. If fertilized, the egg implants once it gets to the uterus. This process takes a few days.

8. If not fertilized, the egg is flushed out with the woman's next period.

A woman has to ovulate to get pregnant.

A woman can get pregnant even if the man pulled out or if a man ejaculated around the vaginal opening.

A woman can ovulate at any time. Stress and other factors can cause ovulation at unpredictable times. Some women ovulate like clock work, others do not.

A woman can learn about how to predict ovulation and how to avoid pregnancy or when it is the best time to make a baby (this means have sex).

A woman can have a period and not ovulate (called an anovulatory period).

A woman's sex drive is typically higher around ovulation.

Hope that helps someone! :D

Sperm can live inside of you for a few days but you have to ovulate within that period to get pregnant.

Quoting Mom2Addison12:

cuz i didn't know any of that...

yaa missed the part where, you don't have to be ovulating in order to get pregnant.

It can be absorbed or flushed out. Doesn't really matter either way.

You can get pregnant during your period or towards the end of your period IF you ovulate then. I ovulated one time while I still had my period. I knew I was ovulating and since we were TTC, hubby and I did the ol' baby dance and I got pregnant with my second son :)

Quoting Anonymous:

So if the egg gets flushed out during your period wouldn't that mean you would be fertile until your period? I've always heard that the egg just breaks down and is absorbed by your body.

Impossible. No ovulation means no egg. No egg means no baby.

Sadly, no. Although my aunt is completely convinced that I got pregnant by the sperm floating from hubby to me without any hint of sex, lol. She's funny.

So it's possible to be fertile for two or more weeks? Because if the egg stays from the 14th day until the period begins then that would mean a woman is fertile for close to 3 weeks. Based on the 28 day cycle. And I'm aware that you can ovulate at any time, including while on your period.

Edit: I looked it up and we're both right. After approximately 24 hours in the uterus the egg breaks down and is flushed out with the lining of the uterus. =)

It shocks me how litttle most women know about their bodies.
