It's nothing to do with snobbery, their corporate ethics are disgusting.

Snobbery... Plain and simple.
You go to Walmart and spend 20 min to grab a plain white box of pasta for $1. The cashier acts like you majorly inconvinienced her by showing up at the store and is irritable that you want a bag. You go outside to find that your car has been dinged by a cart.
You go to a nice grocery store and can be in and in 5 min because the store is of reasonable size. You pay $1.40 for a colorful, name brand box of pasta, only to be greeted by a cheerful, well-paid, happy cashier who asks if you found everything okay. The bagger notices there is a hole in the bottom of your pasta box and without prompting runs back to grab you a better box. He then asks if you need help out to your car.
Walmart has low prices because they pay their employees nothing and then they treat their employees badly, so everyone is in a bad mood. I'd rather shop a nicer grocery store where if I ask an employee a question they care and try to help me. When I can't find a product at my favorite grocery store the employees run off quick to find the grocery manager to see if he can order it and stock it for me.
My husband loves Dole's pineapple orange banana juice. The small, upscale chain in my town stocks it at their big store but not the smaller one by my house. I spoke to the dairy manager one day and he said sorry for not having it in stock. Didn't even have a spot for it on the shelf. He said he'd make room in the juice are and to check back in a week. Yep, we have that juice always in stock now. Try to get Walmart to do that for you.
