I am sorry, but that just seems silly to me...Just because someone receives food stamps they shouldn't have cookouts with family and friends once in awhile? I didn't realize if you got food stamps you are not allowed to do normal things like other people can!!!

I get food stamps and we have BBQ all the time in the summer (a few times a month) we buy the box of hamburgers that come 20 to a box and a big pack of hot dogs..we then ask others to supply a dish whether it be a salad, chips, drinks condiments or what have you....But just because we get food stamps does not mean I am going to sit home all summer with my thumb up my ASS!!!

My DH works...I am home with 3 kids including a disabled child who needs 24hour care...

****EDIT****I have a degree I am a RN spent 5 years in school to become one, I gave up my career because I was better equipped to care for our child because of my background as a nurse.....DH got out of the military just before we had our last child...he spent 10 years active duty...He got out on a medical discharge because he was hurt while over seas.....I can't work because my child needs 24 hour care and DH work has no set hours....I am looking in to either working from home or trying to get our insurance to cover a a nurse that can help care for our child while I work part time as a home health nurse...

****EDIT****Because a lot of you were saying it was fraud to have a cook out and feed other people at the cook out using food stamps I called my case worker and asked because I truly had to know  if it was or not she actually laughed when I asked her this...She said it is not fraud to have a cook out and feed the company, it is not fraud to have a birthday party for your kids and feed company, it is not fraud to have dinner and feed some company, but what is fraud is selling the food stamps, giving the food stamps away, allowing someone else to use your card, and buying food for someone else house so they can feed their families...She then asked me why I wanted to know so I told her because I was told I committing fraud by having cookouts and she just laughed again.

Here is my pet peeve. Don't tell anyone what you do with your FS and no one will jump all over you.  I swear, there should be a group called FS and PA confessions.  I understand that people need financial help, I do. I just don't think it needs to be broadcasted.

Because the women on CM are bitches. Never have I encountered a FS argument IRL.

I think the point in the other post was poor budgeting on op part. Yes having a bbq or any other treat using fs is fine. But when u look and see that there is still 2 weeks left in a month and u r freakinking cuz u dont have much left u needto rethink the treats.

Let's see one because they can't buy there own food
Two because you have to prepare and serve food seperate if using food stamps

That is why we have peolple bring dishes as well so we are not footing the whole bill to have a BBQ...Plus I would feel weird always going to other people BBQ and never having one of our own to invite people to so in ther end it all works out....

Quoting wkukid:

Your broke. Broke people can't afford parties. If you can afford them you don't need PA.

No one said you can't. But that money is to feed your family, not a BBQ. But if you do use it for that, then be smart and make.sure you have food for the month.

if you do it right, a bbq doesnt cost much if everyone brings something anyways.

I thought it was illegal? That is my only problem with it. That and she didn't budget her money so she would run out early. But that is her problem, lol.

They are allowed.

However its expect for GROWN ADULTS to be able to budget their money to FEED THEIR FAMILY and if they can't do that - and get assistance its then expected the budget their food stamps to FEED THEIR FAMILY and if they still can't do that...

well....

what do you propose? All Food stamp people get a "party" budget  voucher because everyond HAS THE RIGHT to have a party?

Have all the bbq's you want. just dont cry about not being able to feed your kids... because of it.
