Do you consider this stealing? Have you ever stolen anything before?
I dont do this any more, but in my younger more stupid less moral days if I was at a large chain store and was shopping for something and wanted an item that I thought was stupidly over priced I would swap the stickers with a similar cheaper item.
Like books, shoes or jewelry. If I wanted a pair of green flip flops that were $20.00 and a pair of black ones right next to it were only $8.00 I would just trade the tags. I figured it was more moral than actually stealing.
The way I got that idea is when the store made that error first. Something was mislabeled. I was purchasing a peice of furniture from walmart- it was an ottoman (for college, had storage inside), the shelf said the item was $80.00 but when I went to pay the sticker they scanned said it was $20.00. I didn't notice at the time but when I looked at the reciept it said I purchased a folding chair instead of an ottoman.
It happened to me again while I was shopping for bedding. Then it just sorta clicked. These massive chain stores don't much pay attention to things like that I guess. So it dawned on me when I was pining over a couple things, I realized how easy it would be to just switch the stickers. Voila.
Like I said, I was younger, stupider and my morals were lacking a bit I guess. I would never do anything like that now. To be honest I only pulled that move on purpose just a few times. At the time I didn't really even consider it stealing, cause I was still paying for it. I know it was wrong, but even still I don't consider it quite as bad as stealing.
I dont condone this behavior of course.
