My kids are going to bed "hungry" tonight... *UPDATED*

We ate supper, and they both said they were full. I dumped half of the food I put on their plates in the trash already, and put away all the food. They disappeared into the kitchen and I caught them eating a cookie left over from a dinner party last night. I took those away from them and tossed them in the trash. They started screaming, "We're STARVING!" I offered them some of the left overs and they said "No."
Sorry kiddos, no cookie tonight, if you're starving you should have eaten what was on your plate.

*Update* I thought I'd just throw in there, that to be "starving".....they didn't ask for anything, or even make a fuss when I told them it was bedtime, lol. They were asleep the minute they hit the pillow.

No I'm not making it sound like any such thing. You have a wild imagination and have obviously never researched this subject at all.

Quoting RhondaVeggie:

You make it sound like she's saving chicken that has been chewed up and spit out. Food is not gross just because it was on a plate. If you're cutting up food and transporting it to your mouth on a fork then your saliva never even goes near the food.

Quoting sha_lyn68:

That is very unsanitary. Do people who eat in your house know that you are saving 1/2 eaten food that has been contaminated with saliva to feed to them later?

Quoting Anonymous:

Yes. My parents taught me to save the food, for someone will eat it or make into a stew. Money is tight, so if there is good food it is always saved and eaten. We are very big on left overs.

Quoting sha_lyn68:

So you keep 1/2 eaten food left on plates?

Quoting Anonymous:

I'm confused, you save cookies that are left overs, but throw away dinner?????

Hmmm....

My DS would say he is hungry or "starving" just before bed but he didn't want more dinner he wanted cake or icecream or something like that. Thankfully he no longer does this. He will be 9 in Sept.

I don't have to deal with it often. I rarely have anything sweet in the house...lol.

I save half-eaten food. Our budget doesn't allow for waste. I do make sure that each person eats their own plate of leftovers later, but I don't see the big deal either way. SO and I kiss- OMG SALIVA. Our son kisses us- SALIVA.

I guess you missed the part where Annon said she makes a stew LOL. That is not making everyone eat their own plate of leftovers.

Butthurt drama queens crack me up.

Quoting blueeyedpixie:

I saw that. I better delete my comment or they might report me... smh... Some people...

Quoting Anonymous:

Be careful, apparently it is wrong to save food according to some on here. Ridiculous!

Quoting blueeyedpixie:

I do that with ds. I give him plenty of chances to finish and tell him he's not getting anything else if he doesn't finish. I don't throw it away though, I save it so if he says he's hungry, there you go. if he eats his food he gets a snack later if he says he's hungry...

No, but you're missing my point. We all share saliva anyways. Besides, the heat from boiling will kill bacteria.

My kids do this all the damn time I use to feel guilty about telling them no. But after three nights in a row of suddenly being hungry at bedtime and telling them basically tough shit they figured it out and now eat when it's time to eat. Sometimes tough love is what kids need.
