My child doesn't watch television... and I'm so proud!
I don't just mean she doesn't watch television. We have no movies, no video games, no games on my phone, no netflix, no computer games, no nothing. She has no screen time at all. And I am so happy. She will be six soon. Neither of us get the social references of movie or television characters or games. I really don't care about it. When we go to restaurants that have screens we try to sit facing away from them and if we go to someone's house that has the television on (which rarely happens) we find something to do as far away from it as possible. I didn't know until recently that I am a little on the extreme side when it comes to being screen free, but I absolutely love it and I wouldn't have it any other way. It makes me so sad how addicted to screens we are as a society. I also see the irony in the fact that I'm typing this onto a screen. Lol, but I'm a grown up and she is a child and most of my screen free feelings are directed towards the developent of the child's brain.
EDIT: If you think I'm doing a disservice to my child or causing her to be disadvantaged: Why?
At what age do you think a child needs computer skills? Why?
Some people have talked about schools teaching computers at (fill in the blank) grade. Why does the school start in that grade?
And yes, I homeschool.
