dry weddings

Would you go?

We were going to have a dry wedding. No alcohol at all. Not even the toast(it was sparkling juice). There were people on both sides that opted not to come because it was dry. Many people on my DH's side of the family did not want to come because of this. It was a huge fiasco and it sucked. It got so bad that some major key people(FIL, MIL, cousins, aunts) were not going to come. DH was upset because his dad and mom weren't going to be there.

We cancelled the wedding and eloped. We had already had the honeymoon in hawaii paid for so we just went and got married there.

Our 10 year anniversary is coming up and there is still some hard feelings. I dunno, I can't believe the drama this caused.

I have mostly been to dry weddings. People should respect the couples choice no matter why they chose it

Wow that seems like a silly reason to be upset over still...if no one was going I think y'all did nothing wrong doing what ya did.

I would go. I don't drink & I guess I fail to see why the presence or absence of alcohol would be such an issue for people. How strange. :/

I think when you have recovering alcoholics in the family, dry weddings are for the best.  You should have proceeded with your wedding anyway despite the absence of his family.  It would have been their loss.

I don't drink, so it's nothing to me, but I can understand other guests wanting to enjoy a drink when they get all dressed up to spend their entire Saturday at someone's wedding. I've never been to a dry wedding in all honesty.

I'd go to the ceremony, wouldn't stay long at the reception.

That's sad. It's your day, people forget that I guess.
