Environmentally Friendly Mommas....Update!

I recently went primary vegitarian as did the rest of my family. I have a DH, 3 yr old DS and 8 mo old DD. We want to go natural...FROM A MOM WHO DOES THESE THINGS...I need the honest truth...Tell me about the diva cup/mama cloth and cloth diapers, it is harder and how much harder to use? What is better and what is worse? What household products do you use? What brands for baby shampoo etc... Help a momma out to do what's good for the family!

Thanks for any replies...I just want to know from moms who do it, not marketing advisors putting out what I want to hear.

All of these responses are wonderful! I am glad to see all the mommas with good remedies! Thank You! BTW I just ordered two books on amazon, DIY Natural and I can't remember the name but it is basically DIY Gorgeous....SO EXCITED TO GET THOSE!

I love the diva cup and and looking into/making some mama cloth.  Don't have much advise about either of those.  Cloth diapers really aren't hard at all (I ended up switching due to bad yeast rash and hadn't had the time to boil the diapers), basically you just rinse them off then wash them every other day.  With cloth diapers it depends on what you would like in them the cheapest are prefolds and covers which aren't bad.  I personally used fitted's and covers.

I clean the house with 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 water, and about 5 drops lavendar essential oil, and 5-10 drops of tea tree oil in a spray bottle.  I use it for pretty much everything.  For scrubbing I take baking soda and mix with water and make a paste.

For shampoo for the kids I use a teaspoon of baking soda mixed with water and pour over there head, and then rinse.  Then for conditioner about a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar mixed with water and pour then rinse.  Unless their hair gets greasy or dirty I only wash their hair every four days or so.  In between I just rinse their hair with water.

I have six locks on my door all in a row. When I go out, I lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three.

It's for the garden it does it all. We plan to sell it and the castings someday, but we are not to that scale yet. We also have a bee hive and hope to sell honey latter too.

1 mom liked this
I would recommend starting slow. Pick one or two things that are most important to you. What interests you the most? Are you having any problems? Why do you want to go natural? As you learn and change habits new ones will evolve. If you start slowly your new habits will be more likely to stick.:-)

I love my mama cloth, but I'm NOT a tampon person, haha...

Cloth is amazing, but it does have a learning curve, I recommend joining Cuties with Cloth Booties on here, tons of info :)

My biggest advice is find one thing you REALLY want to change, things will branch from there...

Check out the book Green Housekeeping, it has a lot of great info...Google is your friend :)

Feel free to pm me if you want to ask anything else, I'm about as crunchy as I can possibly be :)

Oh, and you can clean almost anything with vinegar and water, haha...
