Mom Confessions Mom Confessions

I drugged my baby. Updated!

Posted by Anonymous   + Show Post
He hasn't been sleeping well, ever. He goes to sleep ok but wakes frequently screaming. Every night he wakes at least twice. Twice is a good night, every hour or less is a really bad night.

Well it's been 15 months and after doing some research I crushed up some melatonin and put it in his milk. He slept for 5 hrs straight and prob would have slept longer if I hadn't given it to him so late.

Judge away.

- Sleep Deprived in Texas

Edit for the Naysayers, would you rather me give him Benadryl or whiskey, or just not sleep at all? I have a job outside the home where I have to function and I cannot do that with little sleep.....some of us needed more help than others. Sorry.

Update - thank you to all the mommas trying to help and giving me suggestions I do appreciate them very much!

Things to try : Almond milk instead of regular milk before bed

Elevating his bed

Childrens sleepy time tea

Calmag supplement

Going to bring it up with his doctor again, ask about possible night terrors or tummy issues due to milk or anything else

Lol yes it's legal. It's a supplement found in the vitamin section.

Quoting MeAndTommyLee:

What the hell is Melatonin?  I've never heard of it and I have 7 kids.  Is this legal?

Do you really think I would go straight to drugs if I hadn't already tried everything else I know?

Quoting RedSoxWife:

Seriously? Have you exhausted all other options? Warm bath, massage with lotion, soft soothing music, story time....

My opinion. LOL!

I just don't see a need into giving a baby, toddler, kid anything to help them sleep. There are other options. Like I said my opinion.

Quoting StrongerAlone:

Based on what?

He's only had one that I know of but I will try that, thanks.

Quoting gsprofval:

Has he had a lot of ear infections? You might try elevating the end of the crib so his ears don't hurt so much.

Read the bottle!

If there's no line on the pill, then it's time released.

Quoting Anonymous:

No it's not. They sell it in liquid form for children too I just don't have the liquid.

Quoting Anonymous:

Holy shit.

My 2 year old hasn't slept since the day he was born.

You do know that Melatonin is time released and you should not be crushing them.

If you HAVE to give it to him, try the liquid.

Triaminic I used to love that crap too lmao the orange was good but the yellow was nasty

Quoting strontium:

at least its natural.

my mom used to give me that orange medicine.. I dont know what its called but it tasted AWESOME. That or benadryl.

I take melatonin nightly, with a benadryl chaser on a bad night.
