I guess one thing I've always wondered is how you know that what you're asking for won't affect others in the long run. Most religions put power in the hands of a Deity who they trust to do the right thing. Paganism (and please keep in mind that I don't know a crazy amount of stuff about it and am asking in order to be educated) looks to me like a person taking matters into their own hands by doing spells to control elements of their own life. I'm not sure that I would trust myself that much honestly.

Have you seen actual results from any of your spells?

Of course !  My spell almost always work !  One of the reasons they do is because I know what I'm doing.  Another is that I don't ask for anything that would hurt another or that is very selfish.

But, spells like prayers are often not instantaneous.  They take time to work.  I say that if you don't get some kind of result in 30 days it's probably a bust.

Can you give me a general overview of what your beliefs are?

Sure---

Well, I'll try.  My religion is Earth based.  I honor Mother Earth and Father Sky, the female and the male.  I believe in balance in all things and moderation.  I wish that people would leave the Earth heal itself.  It can you know if humans would just stop messing with it !

I respect all positive religions and I believe in tolerance.  Can't we all learn to honor each others beliefs instead of trying to debate them ?  :)

Yes, the older I get the more I realize that that the Old Religion offers a little to us all.  ( I am in my Crone years, which means that I have raised my children and they are grown.  I have grandchildren and they too are of the Old Religion.  Of " The Old Religion " is the way that many of the Craft describe themselves. )

Some basic beliefs of The Old Religion are :

" Harm none; do what you will.  What you send will come back to you times 3, 3 times good or 3 times bad. "

" Karma and The Law Of Infinite Return come for us all and sooner than you think. "  You reap what you sow.  Karma insures that no one ever gets away with anything.  Heroes and heroines, villains all get heir just deserts.

" The Wheel Of Life continually turns.  In the beginning are the seeds of the end. "

" All forms of Love are good. "

" Respect the Earth.  Play her false and you will pay according to your wrong deeds. "

" To those of The Old Religion, everything is alive and has power. "

" We are not alone.  Many forms of life have gone out into the Universe. "

( There are other concepts, but I can't think of or remember them all. )

what type of pagan beliefs do you follow? mother earth father sky? more druidic?

I am a Greenwitch.  By that I mean that I am very into growing herbs and all Earth-loving practices.  I do a lot of Witchcrafting.  I make my own oils, ointments, herbal cooking oils, herbal bath products.  I believe that the Earth is our mother.  We should honor and respect her.  I celebrate the 8 Wiccan holidays :  Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lughnassah and Mabon.

My whole immediate family is Pagan, and my Grandma and my Great Aunt were also of the Old Religion or the Craft.

Very cool.  Merry Meet!  :)

Well, actually, when any of us ask a deity for anything aren't we all taking the first step ?  That is, taking power into our own hands just by the asking ?  Of course, the answer is, yes we are !

And, as to asking a Deity---  Yes, Pagans do ask Deities !  I have my favorite special ones.  I don't always have to ask them using their names when I do spells.  They know who I am because I have devoted myself to them, not forgetting them ever, for years and years !  I am their daughter and they know it.
