I wouldn't complain, if it was the opposite (not bringing anything) folks would be upset. If there's extra gifts, just donate them to someone's child who doesn't have anything.

People want to give a gift...especially to a child. If it bothers you...ask your son what charity he would like to help and ask people to bring a small donation instead...most will comply especially if your Son requests this! Then he can take the donations to whatever charity he chooses. Just a thought.
I agree, we tried the, "don't bring a gift", approach, but my family doesn't listen, so we don't have parties anymore.
