Personally, I have not. I only have one potty trained so far and our girls were born opposite seasons, so handing down of shoes hasn't even been a possibility yet. As children, we got hand me downs from family, but my mother always bought us each new shoes, socks and underwear. I've heard that because everyone's feet are different and thus they wear on shoes differently, that it's not good to share shoes. I can't speak for what we would do if we found ourselves dead broke. Wearing someone else's former panties seems kind of gross, but my younger DD is using my older DD's cloth diapers.
Your thoughts ladies?
Underwear, only between my own kids. I'd never take someone elses used underwear or try to give/sell them mine.
Shoes, yeah. If they're in good condition, why not?
No. Neither. Used underwear is nasty. I won't even do family used underwear.
Shoes are a no-no, too. Everyone's arches grow differently and so a shoe gets broken in to your feet and then when someone else wears then, their feet try to mold to the shoes, not the other way around, causing problems in your whole body, not just your feet.
It's best to go without shoes, so if I found myself dead broke and kids shoes too worn out/small, they would go without. Period.
underwear and shoes are not made to be handed down.
Yes, but only between my own kids. My 4 year old has a huge pile of size 2T panties that she wore like once before we sighed and went back to pull ups. There is no reason my 17 month old can't use them. Likewise, we have tons of dress shoes that were worn like 3x to church. No reason the younger child can't use them.
I buy my youngest new play shoes and as she gets older she can have her own new panties, but for potty training she may as well pee all over what is already in the house.
I do hand-me-downs for shoes, if they are still in really good condition. Haven't had to worry about underwear yet, but even when I do we will NEVER reuse underwear. That's just nasty.
We do for sandles and water type shoes for DS.. but not underwear, that is just kinda gross to be...
I voted yes for underwear and shoes. The underwear is only shared between siblings when they're potty training-why buy new when they're just going to have accidents anyway? Shoes not really, but again only between siblings or really good friends when I do hand me down shoes. Generally it's just the girls dress up shoes that get worn once or twice and that's it.
