We hang out with my cousins a lot an d one of the girls likes to play rough with my son. She thinks it's funny to beat him up and it really gets on his nerves. He's 8 and she's 6 btw. So I told him to hit her back. He told her to stop and he doesn't find it funny but she continues.

So I told her dad what I told my son and he gets all pissy saying no boy should ever hit a girl. Bla bla bla. Keep in mind, I told my son not to hit her in the face or hit her hard. Just enough to get her to leave him alone.

To add, I have told her to stop. She stops for a while then does it again another time. She says she is just playing but my DS says its rough and gets on his nerves. We've talked to the girl but I can't watch over them every second.

I have told my son the same. If the other kid won't stop after telling an adult and telling her/him to stop, he has a right to defend himself.

Yea I don't have to tell my son, he does it on his own. But he doesn't get away with hittin a girl. That will never b aloud in this family.

Yes. This.

It's important to us that our son grows up learning to respect women.

We teach no hitting to all of our kids but if she wont leave him alone(even after I have told her to stop) then he needs to defend himself.

I think it would be better to teach your son to avoid the girl.

.......really...she's younger than him.
That's not good parenting. Why not have DS not play with her and tell her parent.. and if that's the case and nothing happened YOU TALK TO HER! children will listen to adults who scold them. Tell her she needs to stop hitting your child or there will be consequences.
why teach your son to hit a girl...really that's just setting him up for failure in social relationships.

No, you don't teach not hitting, you teach hit if you've been hit.  We teach our boys that they will not hit a girl, period!

I agree with you!! If these little girls want to play rough, then they need to be prepared to face the consequences. Don't dish it out if you can't take it! I have two boys and they know they have the right to defend themselves. They know not to throw the first punch but they can stand up for themselves. It's such a double standard that these girls will pound on boys because they know they can get away with it, but when they get hit back it's all "He hit me!! Boys shouldn't hit girls!" Keep your hands to yourself if you don't want to get hit.
