dd met a girl who is 7, dd is 4, her bestie (4 as well) got all kinds of pissed off that dd was wanting to include the 7 year old in their little circle. My dd was so confused as to why her 4 year old friend wanted nothing to do with her new friend.

or some kids have a good mom who tells their 4 year old that you can't pick you friend's friends and to suck it up and to go sit with dd and her new friend or she can sit by herself and be alone
