Retardation (and retarded) are clinically correct words still commonly in use. They describe very specific diagnostic criteria and are wholly and fully ways of clinically describing the condition of a patient/client. They became unpopular in educational circles, mainly due to the choice of many to use them as derogatory terms, and in response to pressure from special education parents. Most educational circles dealing with the developmentally delayed no longer use these terms, despite the fact that it is precisely the diagnosis they are dealing with.
Quoting Anonymous:A slang term for dumbass when you are only around close friends or family members to make fun of or to tease.... Because it is still funny when no one is there to be a baby about it. :)
I use the word.....but I refuse to be politically correct!
