Sexual intercourse by an adult with a person below a statutorily designated age.

The criminal offense of statutory rape is committed when an adult sexually penetrates a person who, under the law, is incapable of consenting to sex. Minors and physically and mentally incapacitated persons are deemed incapable of consenting to sex under rape statutes in all states. These persons are considered deserving of special protection because they are especially vulnerable due to their youth or condition.

It is the job of the minors parents/guardians to make sure she is never ends up in a situation where she could end up in a sexual situation. This means that even if a girl under the age of consent begs a man over the age of consent, even if she shows up to his house naked, sits on his face and wriggles, if he has sex with her it is rape.
Please warn you sons about this! Please!

Unless you keep your kid on a (tight) leash, how is it the parents *job* to make sure their daughter doesn't end up in that situation??  That doesn't make sense to me, sorry.  yes, I know what statutory rape is, but I don't understand how it's a parents job to prevent it unless they are by their kids side 24/7.

Agree! I was raised by a strict father and grandparents(dad worked nights) and wasnt allowed to do much if anything at all and still found ways.. not proud of it but it is what it is

Sometimes its easy while other cases not so much. It may not seem like a 13 or 14 yo willing to have sex is harmed but mentally it can harm their future thinking.

Quoting lalaboosh:

I think statutory rape would be more apropriate for a minor being coerced into a sexual relationship or being mentally incompetent to make the choice (like having a low EQ or something, but still being functional enough to not be mentally retarded). That leaves a lot of grey area, though. That would lead to a lot of wasted time and money in some cases. I just wish all humans could adopt the one basic law so we could get rid of all these super specific pain in the ass laws. It's just 'do no harm.' It's pretty easy to tell when you're doing harm. Lol!

I know what you mean.

Haha, maybe. I really only skimmed your quote thread. LOL! I think some of these rape cases are just bullshit though. I wish it could be called something other than rape, like sexual misconduct instead.

If my 18 year old son slept with a 14 year old I would turn him in myself. No lie. Definitely a lesson I will instill in both my son and daughter.

Absolutly. If a 19 yo girl is having sex with a 14 yo child she should face the same consequences.

Exactly. Although, it's possible that the reaction to a 13 or 14 year old having sex can do just as much or more damage than the sex act itself. It's pretty freaking complicated. I think humans are so arrogant for thinking we know all there is to know about sexuality and healthy sexuality. I plan to raise my daughter in a sex positive home where we talk openly about it so she never has to hide what she's thinking from us. I also plan to tell her that while I don't think there is anything unhealthy about a very young person exploring their sexuality alone with masturbation, I do think being sexual with other people can lead to a lot of confusion if it's done at too young an age. I hope she waits longer than she wants to, I'll tell her all the time that I don't think she'll regret waiting. I don't regret having sex when I did, but I don't think waiting would have been so bad either. LOL!

That is a very good point that I agree with but mostly in cases where the person they have sex with isnt a legal adult. I agree that a bad reaction to the child having sex can affect the way the child views sex but then again some circumstances call for big measures. That is why legal adults should know better and know the damage they are doing to the child.

Then you dont get it at all.

Quoting Anonymous:

I get the concept but totally disagree with labeling someone as a child predator if they have sex with a willing participant that happens to be under age.
